but never gives you the dignity of presence

who holds your energy like a keepsake

who watches your life unfold from a distance
but chooses silence over honesty
and comfort over courage

your light is not meant to be used
by someone who benefits from your becoming
but was never willing to meet you there
not someone who wanted your fire
but couldn’t handle your heat
not someone who wanted the feeling of you
without the reality of you

let him go
let him keep his maybe, his almost, his silence
let him live with the knowing
that he was once this close
to real love
and he did nothing

you are not here
to be a private escape
for someone too afraid to arrive

you are here
to be met
chosen
and held
fully, publicly, presently

don’t choose the one who is well intentioned sis
